Laws and Rules of the Order Governing the Fourth Degree
of the Knights Of
Columbus

The following guidelines were voted on and adopted in April 2018 concerning the regalia for Assembly 2474:
  • The new uniform (dark blue blazer, and dark grey slacks) will be acceptable at parish-based events and all outside events the assembly and color corps are invited to participate in
  • This guideline is not intended to dissuade any member from purchasing the new uniform but is to make our intent known as regards to the new uniform for current and future members of the 4th Degree.  We encourage anyone who wishes to buy the new uniform to do so and to fully participate in any event in the new uniform

  • The official dress for the Fourth Degree shall be the new uniform with a white shirt and KofC Assembly tie, and black shoes. In lieu of the new uniform, a dark suit is acceptable
Color Corps Regalia – Section 40
  • The official regalia when serving in a Color Corps is the same as the official dress of a member with the following additions: beret with colored emblem as described below, white gloves, service baldric and silver sword. Vice Supreme Masters, Masters, and former such officers only shall be permitted to bear the gold sword
  • The colors to be used with the beret patch are as follows:

Vice Supreme Master Light Blue
Master Gold
Faithful Navigator White
District Marshall Green
Assembly Commander Purple
  • The colors worn by the Supreme Master, Vice Supreme Masters, Masters, and Faithful Navigators may continue to be worn by such officers following their completion of service in that office
  • These colors shall be mandatory January 2008
Article XII Color Corps (41)
The Establishment of – Section 41
  • Assembly may henceforth establish a uniform drill corps with the approval of the Master of the District and such unit shall be known as “Fourth Degree Color Corps of (your) Assembly”
  • A Color Corps may participate in exemplifications, religious and public functions. The Master shall have full control of the Color Corps in his district, except as hereinafter provided and shall be held strictly accountable for such unit
  • The Faithful Navigator shall appoint a Commander of the Color Corps for his Assembly

Color Corps Authorization
Every assembly should organize and maintain a Fourth-Degree color corps under the supervision and direction of the Master of the District. Such bodies may participate in installations, exemplifications, religious and public functions and parades.
Official Regalia Dress – Members
The Fourth-Degree member official regalia dress is as follows:
  • Plain White Shirt
  • Official Fourth Degree Necktie 
  • Black Footwear 
  • Black Socks 
  • Lapel Pin (Official Fourth Degree Pin item PG-113) 
  • Name Badge 

A member serving in the Armed Forces of his country is in proper attire when dressed in Military dress uniform.

When a Fourth-Degree member attends an official function of the Order where Fourth Degree dress is required, he may wear the medal of his office around his neck, be it Fourth Degree or Third Degree. This applies only if he is currently serving in that office.

A former Supreme Director, Past State Deputy, Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator, Former Vice Supreme Master, Former District Master, Former District Deputy, or Past Faithful Navigator may wear the miniature medals of these offices, in accordance with the guidelines in the Protocol Handbook.

Official Regalia Dress – Color Corps
The Knights of Columbus Color Corps official regalia dress is the same as the official regalia dress of a member, with the following additions:
  • Black Beret with the emblem color of the office as set forth below
  • White gloves
  • Service Baldric, together with a sword, is worn over the coat from the right shoulder to the left hip. When a sword is not permitted for any reason, the Service Baldric shall be worn, nevertheless
  • Color bearers wear a color harness and Service Baldric, but no sword
  • The same rules apply with reference to wearing jewels of office
  • A pocket name badge shall not be worn when dressed in Color Corps regalia

Protocol for Color Corps
  • In all ceremonies, whether within a church, other building, or out of doors and when acting in conjunction with a group of the clergy, altar servers, societies, military units or others, it is important that the Master, Marshal, Commander or SK in charge of the Color Corps consult with the Ordinary of an Archdiocese or Diocese to clarify all of the procedures that are acceptable within that jurisdiction. At the Local level, it is imperative that the color corps commander consult with the celebrant or with those in charge of the other components, and act in conformity with them. If a master of ceremonies or marshal is in charge, his suggestions shall be followed although it may deviate from the suggested procedures outlined herein
Silent Commands
  • Reference is made in this section to “visual commands” Due to the necessity for silence, particularly during a drill participation in church, silent “cues” must be used by the drill commander to instruct members and to give commands
Medals
  • When a Fourth-Degree member attends an official function of the Order where Fourth Degree dress is required, he may wear the medal of his office around his neck, be it Fourth Degree or Third Degree

Procedure and Manual for the Sword – Section 42
  • The procedure and the Manual of the Sword shall be in accordance with the “Color Corps Drill Manual” as approved by the Board of Directors. In the absence of such directive the Master has full control provided, however, that he first receives approval of such procedure from the Supreme Master
