Meet Dr. John T. Gohman II, DPA: A Champion of Faith and Service

We are honored to introduce Dr. John T. Gohman II, DPA, a distinguished member of the Knights of Columbus whose life and career have been dedicated to service, faith, and compassion.

Dr. Gohman’s professional journey is marked by his roles as a retired Psychologist and Psychiatric Healthcare Executive. His commitment to improving the lives of others has left a lasting impact on our community and the world.

Within the Knights of Columbus, Dr. Gohman serves as the Faithful Captain of Assembly 2474, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to our organization. His leadership extends back to the Fraternal Year 2016-2017 when he served as Deputy Grand Knight, contributing significantly to our council’s growth and success. In the Fraternal Year 2022-2023, he took on the vital role of Public Relations Director, further solidifying his commitment to our mission.

Beyond the Knights, Dr. Gohman actively participates in the Pinellas Hope initiative, where he and his dedicated team provide meals to the homeless in Pinellas County, demonstrating his compassionate heart and commitment to those in need.

Dr. Gohman’s illustrious career in psychiatric healthcare spans private practice, leadership in psychiatric hospitals, and contributions to the development of the field. Notably, during the deinstitutionalization era of the 1970s and early 1980s, he played a pivotal role in transitioning patients to less restrictive environments, significantly reducing the patient population.

In subsequent years, Dr. Gohman served as the Chief Executive of private psychiatric hospitals and adapted to the changing healthcare landscape as the Chief Operating Officer of a Managed Healthcare company based in Tampa. His dedication to improving healthcare operations, maximizing revenues, and implementing software solutions was unwavering.

Driven by his commitment to spiritual development, Dr. Gohman completed a 3-year formation program to become a Spiritual Director in 2013. Today, he is a diocesan-approved Spiritual Director and has recently completed an internship focused on the Giving of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. He continues to provide spiritual guidance, both in person at the parish office and via Zoom, enriching the lives of those he serves.

As a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church since 2005, Dr. Gohman and his wife Peggy actively contribute to their faith community. John serves as the Lector Coordinator and Lector, while Peggy coordinates Eucharistic Ministers and serves in that role as well. Together, they act as Sacristans for the 6:00 PM Saturday Mass, embodying their deep commitment to their faith.

The Gohmans share their life with a loving family, including four married sons and five grandchildren. Notably, two of their grandchildren currently serve in the Army, a testament to the values of service and commitment instilled in their family.
